All about Feeds

Posted by Ask Salomon in Useful Web Tools

Hello World :-)
For those of you who are not using Feeds yet, I hope this helps you reconsider your decision. Of course, there are always exceptions, but when you have some websites which you plan to distribute beyond the usual web traffic visitors you normally have using browsers, feeds turn out to be a great option as these provide you with lots of updates on a regular basis automatically through a web portal. This is a great move forward because you can have lots of subscribers to your site and also subscribe to your favorite blogs, websites, and podcasts easily. This just shows how a technological transformation has revolutionized online advertising and profit making ventures in the best possible ways. Your online tour is now optimized with specific types of feeds in the most easy and time efficient way.

The advantages of using feeds are endless. For a website owner, this means more visibility and chances of multiplying revenue through sales as well when there are more and more subscribers reviewing the web content on a regular basis. Some of the really big names in this realm that constantly provide feeds include Amazon.com, ABCNews, Yahoo!,BBC News Headlines and Google News, just to mention a few. Another example is how Apple, using its distinctly functioning iTunes Music Store, provides a stunning array of thousands and thousands of podcasts, both video and audio, that may be downloaded, each being triggered by a feed.

Real Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds pose a terrific alternative in the context of e-mail as well because of the increasing number of spam worming through every net lover’s mailbox with updates that are less than effective. So when web site administrators got the RSS feeds option, it became the best and the easiest way for them to display their content on the site without worrying about the fate of mass newsletters delivered into the mailbox. No wonder, Intel provides an excellent suite of feeds and so does IBM and yes, Microsoft, too!

Known as one of the best and most distinguised provider for RSS feeds as well as blogs, FeedBurner is a well known name. By providing web based tools to help its publishers, podcasters as well as its bloggers, this is one of the largest feed and blog advertising providers with unparalleled content brought from some of the best known media companies in the world including Ziff Davis, Wired News and Wall Street Journal.

Facts about Stats - FeedBurner

At the end of the day, it is stats what actually counts. In terms of traffic growth, the net ratings for FeedBurner progresses steadily with lightning speed as it has already grown 385 percent more than big names such as Digg and even MySpace. Funded by huge names in the industry such as Mobius Venture Capital, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Portage Venture Partners, Sutter Hill Ventures and Union Square Ventures, FeedBurner enjoys great backing and endless opportunities.

To sum up the importance of RSS Feeds, what you need to remember is that the best and most ideal way to deliver content to media is through feeds. With this brief overview, look at how you can utilize feeds to maximize visibility and revenue. !!! Good Luck !!!

Adios  ;-)

The time of turning a blog into a virtual creation

Posted by Ask Salomon in Life on Internet

You may have noticed that more and more people are becoming fan of the newest tendency on the internet: the blog, blogging. I have read through many of them, sometimes just out of curiosity trying to meet the persons behind and wanting to know more about their motives for writing and publishing online their various experiences, believes, advice, warning, etc.
Hey I am not talking about the bloggers who are just in for the money, those are a separate story.
Today I realized why this is becoming so trendy: it could be nothing less than the inborn need for creation all men have within themselves.
If you think in terms of ancient times you will find this repeating over and over again. Men just want to leave his mark behind.

The funny thing is that I wrote this post just after reading through a blog which catchphrase is: ‘Another Day Wasted’.  These three words cut my imagination loose and got me to read through it. The guy behind this blog seems to have a good time writing about his particular live with personal details included. Honestly, without even noticing, I spent more than ½ hr reading through it…  (I liked it though ;-) ).
Just snooping into somebody else’s life, really makes you feel like an intruder without a reason.

Coming across so many different types of blogs with such a diversified content amazed me to the point of making me want to find out where does the push behind it comes from.

I can make sense out of this by believing that people just want to create, to make something and today’s latest way of creating is this: The Virtual Creation, writing on the web and leaving something behind. The question is for how long? And will anyone ever notice? Ah, that is where the search engines help you get noticed.

This will not get more mystical than this. Don’t you agree?

Adios  ;-)

Are you wasting your time on the net?

Posted by Ask Salomon in Life on Internet

- Are you sitting all day long behind your computer searching for tricks,  placing adds,  creating new blogs and new sites, running forums with the sole idea of getting the $$ flowing in from the advertizing?

Did you ever have the feeling that all the work you do on line does not really bring you the cash you hoped to get?
Did you ever ask yourself if perhaps you were not doing it right? Or worse, if perhaps you were wasting your time?

- Yes, it can happen, especially when you forget what I call the basic evaluation that brings you back on track.
- Here are some suggestions as to how to evaluate and what to evaluate:

Evaluating the ‘symptoms’:
- You spend more than 8 hrs per day behind your monitor (this is a regular job schedule) and maybe you already have a regular job, ups!, multiple jobs.
What started up as a hobby has become a second job?

I know lots of people that next to a regular job they spend all their free time writing for the world to read, either in forums or blogging.

If you happen to be away from your monitor and don’t carry a laptop your mind can’t stop wondering where you can get online next to check the stats.

If you have any of these ‘symptoms’ you probably need to disconnect and have some real fresh air. Need to get out, have some fun, I mean real physical fun.
Here a simple question: When was the last time you went out shopping? Picture this:  a day flashed by and you did not even get up from your chair; you eat while you read or wrote, you talked on the phone while you browsed… dude, these are real bad habits, no good.
Have you visited a real shop lately? Ah, of course, who wants to go physically shopping when all can be bought online? Yes, so very convenient, but extremely unhealthy so watch out!  Don’t want to scare you but, hey, you know what they say: ‘mens sana in corpore sano’

Evaluating  Personal and Motivational benefits:
- If the day went by so fast it probably means that you were having a good time, so that is a positive point to consider.
- Did you feel invigorated or tired at the end of the day?
- Did you get new ideas for developing your business through all the hours spend browsing around? This may be considered of immense value, sometimes even more that cash flow.

Evaluating measurable Results:
- How many hours did you invest in your business?
- Did you have to spend a lot of money to make it work?
- How much time you did you spend doing research?
- And here comes the final question: How much $$ did this bring you?
Time to reach your own conclusion:
This should be quite simple: Do the math and then decide.

- If cash is more important to you than fun and learning new things, than you should give more points to your measurable results than to your personal and motivational benefits.
- In any case, my honest opinion is that, In spite of all, if you did have fun, no matter how much or how less $$ income you got, I guess this is the thing for you, so please don’t quit.

I created this blog to help all of you ”addicted to the net” like me and to continue doing what I like most: write, work from your home and enjoy the free life.

 Adios  ;-)
